Awareness: The Power of Seeing It

Before I ever changed a single habit, I had to learn how to recognize the moment I was leaving myself.

The moment the story in my head took over.
The moment I got defensive.
The moment I needed to be right.
The moment I reached for something to numb the feeling.

I used to think change started with willpower.
Or discipline.
Or “trying harder.”

But change didn’t start when I stopped doing the thing.
It started when I finally noticed the moment before I did it.

Awareness didn’t fix me.
It just made it impossible to pretend I didn’t know what I was choosing.

I still wanted to run.
I still wanted to escape.
I still wanted to drink my way out of feelings I didn’t want to feel.

But once I saw the pattern, I couldn’t unsee it.
And that’s when the pause finally had a place to live.

Awareness doesn’t save you.
It just removes your ability to lie to yourself.

Reflection:
What’s one thing you know you’re doing, but still try to pretend you’re not?
